I conducted both exercises and I found that I have a problem focusing at times. The times that I have noticed it are the times that I am very stressed out about things. The past month has been hectic with school work and now moving to a different location because of a promotion within my job. So I am very stressed with the moving and having to train even more. The problem that I have is that I let my mind wonder when I tend to get very stressed. I also get emotionally upset when I tend to get under too much stress.I tend to focus on the unimportant things in life because I often tend to worry about things that don't matter right now. For example, who is going to watch my son in 3 months when I have a training meeting on that one Sunday. I don't need to stress and worry about it right now but I do. I have been trying to figure out ways to focus more and reduce my stress but those are hard to come by.

Samie, I understand your frustration. Sometimes when things seem overwhelming I also tend to focus on little things and let them get me upset. I sometimes think it is because I can't control the big things that are stressing me, so I focus on the little things that I have some control over. These exercises are not for everyone. I know we have to do them for the class, but maybe you should explore other ways to focus and bring calmness to your life. I have a hard time with these exercises too. My calmness and peace come from prayer. You just need to find what works for you. On a positive note, congratulations on the promotion at work!
ReplyDeleteHi Samie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great post about your experiences with the exercise. I also have a hard time focusing sometimes but found this particular exercise relaxing. Congrats on your promotion at work. I also have a hard time focusing on the right things sometimes and worrying about things that aren't that significant. I am currently going through some rough times with my wife and it is hard not to get stressed and still balance a career, school, and 2 kids. For me, working out and exercise is my outlet, (OK- and the occasional bottle of wine :) and I think you just need to find something that works for you.
Congrats again on your promotion and hang in there with the stress of your child, it will all work out for the best!

Hi Samie,
ReplyDeleteI can certainly sense the stress you are under through your post. I use to get very stressed as well but have learned that the things I am stressed out about is not worth compromising my health. I also think better when I'm calm so getting stressed will not resolve the stressor and faster. These exercises are not a one size fits all so may there is a better outlet you could utilize to destress your mind and body.
Congratulations on your promotion and everything will work itself out! It always does.
