Unit 10

  1. Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas . How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not?
I scored pretty low in unit 3 and I still score low now but I think that I have moved up from a 2 to about a 7 now. I still have a few areas that need to be worked on like the stress and emotional parts but other than that I have improved all around. This class has made me look at myself in all different directions and focus on things that matter in life.
  1. Review the goals and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward the goals? Explain.
I have made progess towards my goals. Goals are meant to be reached slowly and I am slowly working my way towards them. It will take time to change and be able to complete my goals but that is the point of a goal. Its a long term effect in life and once you reach them then you set a new standard for yourself on those goals.
  1. Have you implemented the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas? Explain.
The activities I do still do. It is harder for me to find the time to complete all of them but I do still try to complete them on a daily basis but with work, taking care of my son and school, I have very little time to just clean my house. :(
  1. Summarize your personal experience throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been rewarding? What has been difficult? How
My personal experience is that I have grown as a person since we have started this term. I have learned how to control and reduce my stress and also how to relax myself. The most rewarding is that I can now manage my depression and my stess. The most difficult is the dealing with so much to do and not enough time to the activities that I am wanting to complete.

Unit 9

I.Introduction:
Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?
I think that it is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically because you can’t preach to someone and expect them to do something that you as a professional have not become an expert at. You can’t expect a patient to practice mediation if you don’t. If you can’t handle stress then how can you expect someone else to? It’s a lead by example type of world. If you don’t do it why should others? My psychological area is what I need to develop more in depth in order to achieve my goals that I have set for myself.
II.Assessment:
How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically? I have assessed my health in each domain. My spiritually and physically wellness rank pretty high as far as completing them. My psychological wellness needs a bit of work. It is hard for me to focus on tasks when I have so much going on. My mind wonders a lot especially when I am under a lot of stress with many different tasks.
III.Goal development:
List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.
Physical- My goal is to continue to exercise and make myself healthy and nutrition.
Spiritual- My goal is to continue to learn to love and let all stress go.
Psychological- Continue to exercise and train my brain not to wonder and focus on myself.
IV.Practices for personal health:
What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.
Physical- Yoga to help my physical strength and relaxation. Also, going for an evening walk to release stress and continue to keep my body in good shape. I will make a schedule on a calendar with what day I am going to do yoga and what days I am going to go for a walk.

Psychological- I will talk to my friends when something is bothering me and write down my emotions. When I keep things bottled up is when I tend to lose my mind. J I will make a list of what I want to say to my friends of things that happened the day before. This will not only help me remember what I want to tell my friends but it will also help me write down my emotions and how I feel.

Spiritual- Meditation is an exercise that I am going to use to foster growth.  Also, taking myself to a different place with my spirits. Continue to picture myself in a different place to be able to relax. I am going to make time every day to practice these/
V.Commitment:
How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?
I will use this same assessment to track my progress in six months. The strategies that I can use to assist in maintaining my long-term practices are to continue to do the LoveMind exercise and practice the principles of Integral Health.

Unit 8

Hello Everyone!!
The two exercises that I chose were vizualization and Loving Kindness. Both exercises have impacted my life more than anyone could ever know. I did not know that vizualing yourself somewhere else, relaxing and breathing could relax you so much to where you can forget your problems and let all be well. Loving Kindness helped me realize that no matter what loving someone is a big plus in life. I was able to forgive people that I never thought I would for the rest of my life. I learned to love again, even after getting so messed up from the first marriage and love.
Loving someone have changed me. I thought I would never love again and that I would be alone the rest of my life. I was able to recollect myself, regroup and fall in love again. You never know the meaning of happiness until you experience it for the first time. The "real" first time, I always thought I was happy but it was because it was the best that I have had, but now I have better and am the happiest person in the world. Best of all, he loves my SON!! I never thought I would find someone who would love my son like his own, especially since he doesn't have any kids of his own. I found a winner. :)
Anyway these exercises have changed my life for the rest of it. I am going to continue to practice these daily and hopefully get my family and friends involved since they do wonders to you!
Thanks everyone for the wonderful Term!!
Samie
P.S. Good luck to EVERYONE!!

unit 7

I have a lot of stress in my life the past few weeks with a new job location to a new city, moving there and trying to get settled and school and finding a new day care and all that jazz!! For me, I have continued to do the meditation exercises and practices but not all of them work for me. My mind travels a lot faster than my body can handle.

The saying "one cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" means that a person that does not believe or experience something cannot teach another person about it. Its kind of like if you have not dealt with the same issue you cannot teach or preach to someone else how to deal with it. As a health proffesional, if you have not dealt with let's say, cancer, you cannot explain or relate to a family member that is dealing with it. For me, I can relate to single full time working and school mommys, easier than someone who is married and has help from a spouse with the children. I believe that if you put your mind to something, no matter what is going on, you CAN do it! I am living proof of that one.

Unit 6

I conducted both exercises and I found that I have a problem focusing at times. The times that I have noticed it are the times that I am very stressed out about things. The past month has been hectic with school work and now moving to a different location because of a promotion within my job. So I am very stressed with the moving and having to train even more. The problem that I have is that I let my mind wonder when I tend to get very stressed. I also get emotionally upset when I tend to get under too much stress.I tend to focus on the unimportant things in life because I often tend to worry about things that don't matter right now. For example, who is going to watch my son in 3 months when I have a training meeting on that one Sunday. I don't need to stress and worry about it right now but I do. I have been trying to figure out ways to focus more and reduce my stress but those are hard to come by.

Unit 5

  1. Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the benefits, frustrations etc.
The love kindness exercise is more aimed and geared towards the heart and mind. This exercise is supposed to get you and your body ready for other exercises like the subtle mind exercise. The subtle mind exercise is geared more towards the mind and finding your inner self. The benefits that I had with these two exercises was that I was able to relax and focus more. The loving Kindess exercise helped me to realize what love that I do carry for certain people meant to me. The subtle mind exercise helped me stay focus and made me realize what areas in my mind training I needed to work on. Some frustration I had was with the Subtle mind exercise. I would try and get into my inner thinking and some of the images in my head would make me cry. These are images that I try to forget but somehow always come back to me.
  1. Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.
The connection to me is a personal opinion. I think that the connection is deeper than people think on the outside. Inorder to have a healthy mind and physical wellness you have to be spiritually well also. All three are linked together. Kind of like if one link is missing or unhealthy, the whole chain is broken. I see it like that, if one wellness is not healthy then the whole person themselves are not healthy. This connection is manifested in my life in one major way. I was not spiritually well and everyone noticed it. When I went through a rough last 6 months,  everyone knew it. I let everything get to me because I was not spiritually healthy. Because of that my mental state was slipping away and my physical health was getting to the point of being anarecix. I had to fix myself one step at a time and now I have completed all three to be a healthy A. :)

Unit 4

  1. Describe your experience. (Did you find it beneficial? Difficult?) Why or Why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or Why not?
My experience was beneficial. The workout section I had to reread about 4 times to understand stand it and jot down a few notes for rememberance. I have actually already told a few friends about this exercise and copied the pages for them. I was able to find that doing the exercises in the morning was easier for me rather than in the evening since I am exhausted by the time I am done.
  1. What is the concept of “Mental Workout? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a Mental Work Out? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health?
The concept of the Mental Workout is to further develop the mind and completely get rid of  the self-centerdness in our lives. The love-kindness practice has benefits of a natrual and effortless apsect of higher consciousness. The subtle mind  has benefits of progressing toward a stable and facile mind of calm-abiding.

I can implement that workouts by just completing a workout everyday. The more I can get my mind to do that SUBTLE MIND exercise, the better my calming will be. I tend to stress out about so many things that I can't ever be calm and just relax. I need to focus more on that right now than love.
